"BirthKeeper™, a coalition of diverse individuals and organizations, will hold a Summit at the National Press Club in Washington DC on May 14th 2016 (April 27, 2016 - Washington, DC) - BirthkeeperTM, a coalition dedicated to transforming birth in America, is holding a groundbreaking Summit in our nation's capital Saturday May 14th, 8 am – 5 pm at the National Press Club. The press is invited. A press conference is at 12:30 pm. Lunch will be served.
BirthKeeper™ represents active stakeholders, parents, educators and activists working to shift the paradigm for birth in America. Its mission is to educate health professionals, policy makers, prospective parents and the public about the critical nature of the period surrounding conception, pregnancy and birth, and the urgent need to change many current beliefs, policies and practices to support this primal period of human development.
The United States ranks near the bottom of all industrialized nations in maternal and infant mortality and wellness, despite spending more on maternity care than any other nation. "We are bringing together educators, parents, organizational heads, researchers and health professionals to transform birth in America," said event coordinator, Deb Puterbaugh. "This Summit represents decades of collaborative work.”
This year's BirthKeeper™ Summit, “The Primal Continuum of Human Development: Critical Issues in Maternal-Child Health Care" will focus on what shapes a human being from pre-conception to age one and beyond, and the crucial importance of this time on ourselves, our families, society, and our world. Scientific evidence shows that this extended period of time at the start of life – which begins before conception – sets the stage for humanity’s and the earth’s well-being.
BirthKeeper™ coalition affirms that it is the need and right of all childbearing women and babies to be protected, supported, and cared for during this critical time.
