Study: Babies with Flat Head Syndrome Have Developmental Problems
Ever since the advice came out for babies to sleep on their backs to prevent sudden infant death syndrome, there have been more infants who have developed flat spots on their heads. The condition was once thought to be only cosmetic, but research shows otherwise.
A helmet is the standard therapy for reshaping a baby's flattened skull. The condition is called plagiocephaly or flat head syndrome. Since the early 1990s, the number of cases has skyrocketed.
