For all you moms and moms-to-be, Happy Mother’s Day!
You are the healer of wounds, the soother of souls, the arms of love, the root of safety, the breath of inspiration, the spark of genius, and the wings of flight.
Just for today, let yourself be appreciated! Let your kids spoil you by bringing you breakfast in bed, sitting in a stuffy restaurant for lunch in uncomfortable clothes, making you a popsicle-stick picture frame, or laboring over a carefully crafted handmade card.
You deserve a little extra attention today. If you can, let someone else tie the shoe, wipe the bottom, kiss the boo-boo, find the green cup, or tape together the banana to soothe the crying child. For one day out of the year, try to remember the Principle of Balance. Let yourself be a little bit spoiled.
In so many ways, every day of the year is Mother's Day. The full-body hugs, the tiny notes scribbled on scraps of paper in crayon, the tears that dry only when a small face is pressed against our cheek ... they are our every-day Mother's Day gifts.
Whatever your favorite Mother’s Day gift is, enjoy it! As my kids now are all in their teens, I’m far too aware of how fast these days go. Part of me misses the days when they crawled in my lap and snuggled in bed with me. But I love even more the people they’re turning out to be, and watching them mature gives me more joy than I ever imagined.
